The LAMC3 (laminin subunit gamma 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

LAMC3, also known as Laminin subunit gamma-3, is a protein encoded by the LAMC3 gene in humans. It is a component of laminins, a family of extracellular matrix glycoproteins that are the major noncollagenous constituent of basement membranes. Laminins are crucial for various biological processes, including cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. They are composed of three non-identical chains: laminin alpha, beta, and gamma. These chains form a cruciform structure with three short arms and a long arm, each composed of a different combination of the chains. The LAMC3 gene encodes the gamma-3 chain isoform of laminin, which combines with other chain isoforms to create different laminin heterotrimers, such as laminin-12. The specific functions of different laminin isoforms vary, and their tissue distribution reflects their diverse roles in vivo.
