Description

The ALS2 (alsin Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor ALS2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The ALS2 gene instructs the production of alsin, a protein found in various tissues, notably in motor neurons. Alsin activates GTPases, which are involved in vital cellular processes like cell division, differentiation, and apoptosis. These GTPases are essential for the proper arrangement of cell membrane components, the transport of molecules into the cell (endocytosis), and the development of axons and dendrites, crucial structures for nerve impulse transmission.
