GDI1

Description

The GDI1 (GDP dissociation inhibitor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Rab GDP dissociation inhibitor alpha is a protein encoded by the GDI1 gene in humans. It plays a role in regulating the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of Rab proteins, which are small GTP-binding proteins involved in vesicular trafficking. GDIs slow down the release of GDP from Rab proteins and release GDP from membrane-bound Rab proteins. GDI1 is primarily expressed in neural and sensory tissues. Mutations in GDI1 have been linked to X-linked nonspecific mental retardation. GDI1 interacts with CDC42.

GDI1 is also known as 1A, GDIL, MRX41, MRX48, OPHN2, RABGD1A, RABGDIA, XAP-4, XLID41.
