GATA3

Description

The GATA3 (GATA binding protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

GATA3 is a transcription factor encoded by the GATA3 gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in regulating the expression of a wide range of genes involved in various biological processes. GATA3 is essential for the embryonic development of multiple tissues, including the immune system and the endothelium of blood vessels. It is particularly important for allergic responses and immunity against parasitic worm infections. A deficiency in GATA3, known as Barakat syndrome, is a congenital disorder. Current research is investigating the potential benefits of targeting GATA3 to treat inflammatory and allergic diseases, such as asthma. GATA3 is also being investigated as a potential marker for various cancers, particularly breast cancer. The exact role of GATA3 in cancer development remains under investigation. The GATA3 gene is located on chromosome 10, near the end of the short arm at position p14.

GATA3 is also known as HDR, HDRS.
