GALNT7

Description

The GALNT7 (polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

GALNT7 is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of O-linked oligosaccharides. It transfers an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (GalNAc) residue to an already glycosylated peptide. Unlike other members of its family, GALNT7 requires a pre-existing GalNAc on the peptide before adding additional GalNAc moieties. While it might have some peptide transferase activity, it does not transfer GalNAc directly onto serine or threonine residues. Its specific peptide substrate is currently unknown.

GALNT7 is also known as GALNAC-T7, GalNAcT7.
