GALNT5

Description

The GALNT5 (polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

GALNT5 catalyzes the first step in O-linked glycosylation, attaching an N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) sugar to a serine or threonine residue on a protein. This enzyme demonstrates preference for the EA2 peptide substrate, exhibiting weaker activity towards Muc2 or Muc1b substrates.

GALNT5 is also known as GALNAC-T5, GALNACT5.
