GALNT15

Description

The GALNT15 (polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

GALNT15 initiates O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis by transferring an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine (GalNAc) residue to serine or threonine residues on protein receptors. While exhibiting weaker activity compared to GALNT2, GALNT15 can transfer up to seven GalNAc residues to the Muc5AC peptide, suggesting its ability to modify adjacent Thr/Ser residues alongside other GALNT proteins. GALNT15 preferentially acts on Muc1a as a substrate.

GALNT15 is also known as GALNACT15, GALNT13, GALNT7, GALNTL2, PIH5, pp-GalNAc-T15.
