GADD45B
Description
The GADD45B (growth arrest and DNA damage inducible beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
GADD45B is a protein encoded by the GADD45B gene in humans. Its expression is increased in response to stressful growth arrest conditions and DNA damage. GADD45B activates the p38/JNK pathway by binding and activating the MTK1/MEKK4 kinase. This pathway is involved in regulating growth and apoptosis. GADD45B also plays a critical role in adult neurogenesis by promoting activity-induced DNA demethylation of specific promoters, leading to the expression of genes essential for neurogenesis, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). Its interaction with other proteins, including ASK1, GADD45GIP1, MAP2K7 and MAP3K4, further suggests its involvement in various cellular processes.
GADD45B plays a crucial role in regulating both cell growth and programmed cell death (apoptosis). It activates the stress-responsive MTK1/MEKK4 MAPKKK, which is a key signaling molecule in cellular stress responses.
