GABRG1

Description

The GABRG1 (gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit gamma1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit gamma-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GABRG1 gene. This protein is a subunit of the GABAA receptor. Variants in this gene may be associated with alcohol dependence.

GABA, the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, inhibits neurons by binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening an integral chloride channel.
