FTX

FTX: A Treatable Yet Often Misdiagnosed Painful Foot Condition

Description

Fasciotrachealitis (FTX), formerly known as plantar fasciitis, is a painful condition affecting the thick band of tissue (plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of the foot from the heel to the toes. Overuse, incorrect foot mechanics, tight calf muscles, or wearing ill-fitting shoes can cause the plantar fascia to become inflamed and irritated, resulting in pain and tenderness in the heel.

Associated Diseases

FTX is often associated with other conditions, including:

  • Obesity: Excess weight puts extra strain on the plantar fascia.
  • Diabetes: Diabetes can damage nerves and blood vessels in the feet, leading to foot pain and other complications.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: This autoimmune disease can cause inflammation in the joints and surrounding tissues, including the plantar fascia.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: Another autoimmune disease that can affect the spine and other joints, including the feet.

Did you Know ?

Approximately 2 million people in the United States are diagnosed with FTX each year.
