FOXS1
Description
The FOXS1 (forkhead box S1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.
The FOXS1 gene in humans produces a protein known as Forkhead box S1. This protein belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors, which are characterized by their winged helix DNA-binding domain. FOXS1 is primarily found in the aorta and kidneys, but its exact function remains unclear.
FOXS1 acts as a transcriptional repressor, suppressing gene expression from the FASLG, FOXO3, and FOXO4 promoters. It is also suggested to play a role in organizing the blood vessel network within the testes.
FOXS1 is also known as FKHL18, FREAC10.
