FMNL2

Description

The FMNL2 (formin like 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Formin-like protein 2 (FMNL2) is a protein encoded by the FMNL2 gene in humans. The gene produces various isoforms through alternative splicing. The full-length protein (FRL3), containing 1092 amino acids, is regulated by autoinhibition and can be activated by Rho proteins. FMNL2 is expressed in multiple human tissues. It is a formin-related protein involved in morphogenesis, cytokinesis, and cell polarity. FMNL2 expression is significantly higher in colorectal cancer tumors compared to normal tissue. Genetic variations in FMNL2 have been linked to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risks, as well as Alzheimer's disease. FMNL2 influences the interaction between astrocytes and blood vessels in both healthy and Alzheimer's brains, potentially contributing to the development of vascular disease and Alzheimer's disease.

FMNL2 is also known as FHOD2.
