FLVCR1-AS1

FLVCR1-AS1: A Critical Gene Associated with Liver Disease

Description:

FLVCR1-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 8. LncRNAs are RNA molecules that do not code for proteins but play significant roles in gene regulation. FLVCR1-AS1 is specifically involved in regulating the expression of the FLVCR1 gene, which encodes a protein essential for maintaining liver function.

Associated Diseases:

FLVCR1-AS1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several liver diseases, including:

  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): The most common liver disease worldwide, characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the liver. FLVCR1-AS1 is downregulated in NAFLD, leading to increased inflammation and liver damage.
  • Hepatic fibrosis: A condition in which the liver becomes scarred due to chronic inflammation. FLVCR1-AS1 inhibits the progression of hepatic fibrosis by suppressing cell death and promoting cell regeneration.
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): The most common type of liver cancer. FLVCR1-AS1 is downregulated in HCC, contributing to tumor growth and metastasis.

Did you Know ?

According to a recent study, patients with low levels of FLVCR1-AS1 in liver biopsies had a significantly increased risk of developing HCC compared to those with high levels.
