FKBPL

Description

The FKBPL (FKBP prolyl isomerase like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

FKBPL, also known as FK506-binding protein like, is a protein involved in various cellular processes. It belongs to the immunophilin protein family, which are known for their roles in immunoregulation and protein folding/trafficking. FKBPL has been linked to potential roles in induced radioresistance and cell cycle regulation.

FKBPL is involved in the cellular response to stress. It was initially named DIR1 and later renamed FKBP-like (FKBPL) due to its homology to the FKBP family. It was also called Wisp39 for its involvement in stabilizing newly synthesized p21.

FKBPL interacts with Hsp90, the glucocorticoid receptor, and dynamitin, suggesting a possible role in signaling pathways. Interestingly, FKBPL has been shown to influence estrogen receptor signaling, potentially impacting the effectiveness of breast cancer drugs like tamoxifen.

FKBPL may contribute to cellular responses to X-ray radiation. It regulates the stability of the p21 protein by directly interacting with both p21 and the chaperone protein Hsp90.

FKBPL is also known as DIR1, NG7, WISP39.
