FKBP2

Description

The FKBP2 (FKBP prolyl isomerase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

FKBP2 is a protein encoded by the FKBP2 gene in humans. It belongs to the immunophilin protein family, playing a role in immunoregulation and essential cellular processes involving protein folding and trafficking. As a cis-trans prolyl isomerase, FKBP2 binds immunosuppressants FK506 and rapamycin, acting as an ER chaperone and potentially contributing to membrane cytoskeletal scaffolds. The gene exhibits two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same isoform, with multiple polyadenylation sites identified. However, the complete gene structure remains undetermined. FKBP2 interacts with ARFGEF1 and EPB41L2.

FKBP2 acts as a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) which accelerates protein folding by catalyzing the conversion of proline imidic peptide bonds between cis and trans configurations in oligopeptides.

FKBP2 is also known as FKBP-13, FKBP13, PPIase.
