FGGY

Description

The FGGY (FGGY carbohydrate kinase domain containing) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

FGGY catalyzes the phosphorylation of D-ribulose using ATP, converting it to D-ribulose 5-phosphate. This process is believed to be part of a mechanism that prevents the harmful buildup of free D-ribulose, which can be produced by non-specific phosphatases. Alternatively, FGGY might be involved in regulating the recycling of D-ribulose 5-phosphate within the pentose phosphate pathway. While primarily acting on D-ribulose, FGGY can also phosphorylate ribitol, although with lower efficiency.

FGGY is also known as -.
