Description
The FBXW2 (F-box and WD repeat domain containing 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
FBXW2 is a protein encoded by the FBXW2 gene in humans. F-box proteins are a large family of eukaryotic proteins characterized by a specific 40 amino acid motif, the F box. Many F-box proteins are essential for the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of cellular regulatory proteins. They are part of a four-subunit ubiquitin protein ligase complex called SCFs, which attach ubiquitin to target proteins. FBXW2 is one of these F-box proteins, and it contains multiple WD-40 repeats, which are protein domains involved in protein-protein interactions. FBXW2 is classified within a group of mammalian F-box proteins that contain WD-40 repeats.
FBXW2 is a substrate-recognition component of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box protein)-type E3 ubiquitin ligase complex.
