FABP6

Description

The FABP6 (fatty acid binding protein 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

FABP6, also known as ileal fatty acid binding protein (FABP6), is a protein encoded by the FABP6 gene in humans. It belongs to the family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABP6, along with FABP1 (liver fatty acid binding protein), is capable of binding bile acids. FABP6 is believed to play roles in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. Multiple transcript variants have been identified for this gene, resulting from alternative transcription promoters and/or alternative splicing.

FABP6 is also known as I-15P, I-BABP, I-BALB, I-BAP, ILBP, ILBP3, ILLBP.
