FABP4

Description

The FABP4 (fatty acid binding protein 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

FABP4, also known as adipocyte protein 2 (aP2), is a carrier protein for fatty acids primarily found in adipocytes and macrophages. Blocking FABP4, either through genetic engineering or drugs, shows promise in treating heart disease and metabolic syndrome.

FABP4 acts as a lipid transport protein in adipocytes. It binds both long-chain fatty acids and retinoic acid and delivers them to their corresponding receptors in the nucleus.

FABP4 is also known as A-FABP, AFABP, ALBP, HEL-S-104, aP2.
