ERVFRD-1

Description

The ERVFRD-1 (endogenous retrovirus group FRD member 1, envelope) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

ERVFRD-1, also known as Syncytin-2, is an endogenous retroviral envelope protein that retains its original fusogenic properties. It plays a crucial role in trophoblast fusion and the formation of a syncytium during placenta morphogenesis. Its interaction with MFSD2A is essential for this process.

ERVFRD-1 is also known as ERVFRDE1, GLLL6191, HERV-FRD, HERV-W/FRD, UNQ6191, envFRD.
