Epilepsy

Description

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Seizures are sudden, excessive electrical discharges in the brain that can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Uncontrollable jerking movements
  • Confusion
  • Memory loss
  • Sensory changes
  • Autonomic disturbances (e.g., rapid heartbeat, sweating)

Epilepsy is classified into two main types:

  • Focal seizures: Originate in a specific area of the brain
  • Generalized seizures: Involve the entire brain
