EPSTI1

Description

The EPSTI1 (epithelial stromal interaction 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

EPSTI1, also known as epithelial stromal interaction 1, is a protein that promotes tumor invasion and metastasis when overexpressed in some invasive cancer cells. Its expression is upregulated by the Kruppel like factor 8 protein binding to promoter sequences. The EPSTI1 protein interacts with the valosin containing protein, leading to nuclear translocation of the nuclear factor kappa B subunit 1 gene product and activation of target genes. Overexpression of EPSTI1 has been observed in some breast cancers and in individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

EPSTI1 is also known as BRESI1.
