EPN2
Description
The EPN2 (epsin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
The EPN2 gene in humans produces the Epsin-2 protein. This protein interacts with clathrin and the adaptor-related protein complex 2, alpha 1 subunit. Epsin-2 is located in a brain-derived clathrin-coated vesicle fraction and is found in the peri-Golgi region and at the cell periphery. It is believed to be involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis. The gene can be spliced in different ways, leading to two transcript variants that encode distinct isoforms.
Epsin-2 contributes to the development of clathrin-coated invaginations and the process of endocytosis.
EPN2 is also known as EHB21.
