ENTPD6

Description

The ENTPD6 (ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

ENTPD6, or Ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase 6, is an enzyme encoded by the ENTPD6 gene in humans. Similar to E-type nucleotidases (NTPases), ENTPD6 helps break down nucleotides outside of cells. Like other NTPases, such as CD39, it contains four apyrase-conserved regions.

ENTPD6 catalyzes the breakdown of nucleoside triphosphates and diphosphates, requiring calcium or magnesium for activity. It has a strong preference for diphosphates, particularly GDP, IDP, and UDP, while hydrolyzing CDP, ITP, GTP, CTP, ADP, and UTP at a slower rate. It shows minimal activity against ATP. When associated with the cell membrane, ENTPD6 may assist in glycosylation reactions within the Golgi apparatus. Upon release from cells, it can break down extracellular nucleotides.

ENTPD6 is also known as CD39L2, IL-6SAG, IL6ST2, NTPDase-6, dJ738P15.3.
