ENOX1
Description
The ENOX1 (ecto-NOX disulfide-thiol exchanger 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
ENOX1 acts as a terminal oxidase in the plasma membrane, transferring electrons from cytosolic NAD(P)H to acceptors at the cell surface via hydroquinones. It exhibits alternating hydroquinone oxidase and protein disulfide-thiol interchange/oxidoreductase activities. These activities oscillate with a period of 24 minutes, potentially influencing membrane movements associated with vesicle formation and cell growth. This oscillating activity plays a role in regulating the ultradian cellular biological clock.
