ENOSF1

Description

The ENOSF1 (enolase superfamily member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

ENOSF1 plays a vital role in the breakdown of L-fucose, a sugar found in the carbohydrates attached to cellular glycoproteins. It achieves this by converting L-fuconate into 2-keto-3-deoxy-L-fuconate through a dehydration reaction. This process involves removing a proton from the 2nd position of L-fuconate, creating an enediolate intermediate that is stabilized by a magnesium ion.

ENOSF1 is also known as FUCD, RTS, TYMSAS.
