The EIF5A2 (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

EIF5A2 is a human gene that encodes for a protein known as eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A-2.

EIF5A2 is a translation factor that promotes elongation and termination of translation, particularly when ribosomes stall at specific amino acid sequences. It binds between the exit (E) and peptidyl (P) sites of the ribosome to help rescue stalled ribosomes, especially during translation of polyproline-containing peptides and other ribosome-stalling motifs. It acts as a ribosome quality control (RQC) cofactor by joining the RQC complex and facilitating peptidyl transfer during CAT tailing. EIF5A2 is also involved in actin dynamics, cell cycle progression, mRNA decay, and potentially in stress response and cell wall integrity maintenance.

EIF5A2 is also known as EIF-5A2, eIF5AII.
