EIF4A2

Description

The EIF4A2 (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

EIF4A2 is a human gene that encodes for eukaryotic initiation factor 4A-II, a protein involved in protein synthesis.

EIF4A2, also known as eukaryotic initiation factor 4A-II, is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase. It is a subunit of the eIF4F complex, which is involved in the recognition of the 5' cap structure on messenger RNA (mRNA). This recognition is essential for the initiation of protein synthesis. EIF4A2 plays a crucial role in unwinding secondary structures in the 5'-UTR (untranslated region) of mRNAs, allowing the small ribosomal subunit to bind efficiently and subsequently scan for the start codon, initiating translation.

EIF4A2 is also known as BM-010, DDX2B, EIF4A, EIF4F, NEDHSS, eIF-4A-II, eIF4A-II.
