DVL2

Description

The DVL2 (dishevelled segment polarity protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

DVL2 is a protein encoded by the DVL2 gene in humans. It belongs to the dishevelled (dsh) protein family and shares approximately 40% amino acid sequence similarity with Drosophila dsh. DVL2 is a 90-kD protein that undergoes posttranslational phosphorylation to form a 95-kD cytoplasmic protein. This protein is believed to play a role in the signal transduction pathway mediated by multiple Wnt proteins. The mechanisms of dishevelled function in Wnt signaling are likely to be conserved across metazoans. DVL2 has been shown to interact with Zinc finger protein 165, DAB2 and Arrestin beta 1.

DVL2 plays a crucial role in Wnt signaling pathways, participating in both canonical and non-canonical pathways. It binds to the cytoplasmic C-terminus of frizzled family members, acting as a signal transducer to downstream effectors. Furthermore, DVL2 facilitates the internalization and degradation of frizzled proteins in response to Wnt signaling.
