DUSP16

Description

The DUSP16 (dual specificity phosphatase 16) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Dual specificity protein phosphatase 16 (DUSP16) is an enzyme encoded by the DUSP16 gene in humans. It plays a role in regulating the activity of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), which are important signaling molecules involved in various cellular processes such as gene expression, cell proliferation, differentiation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. MAPK cascades are activated by extracellular signals and transduce these signals to the nucleus, leading to changes in gene expression. DUSP16 acts as a negative regulator of MAPK activity by dephosphorylating the TXY motif within the MAPK protein, which is required for full activation. DUSP16 has been shown to interact with MAPK14 and MAPK8IP1.

DUSP16 is also known as MKP-7, MKP7.
