DSG2

Desmoglein-2 is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein found in specialized structures called desmosomes.

These desmosomes play a crucial role in cell-cell adhesion, especially in tissues exposed to mechanical stress.

Desmoglein-2 contributes to the strength and stability of tissues by linking adjacent cells together.

Associated Diseases

Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)

Did you Know

Mutations in the DSG2 gene are linked to ARVD10, a condition affecting the right ventricle of the heart.

ARVD10 can lead to abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and structural changes in the heart muscle.

It is characterized by thick, calloused skin on the palms and soles (palmoplantar keratoderma), coarse, dry, tightly curled hair, and potentially life-threatening heart issues
