DRG1

Description

The DRG1 (developmentally regulated GTP binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Developmentally-regulated GTP-binding protein 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DRG1 gene.

DRG1 catalyzes the conversion of GTP to GDP by hydrolyzing the gamma-phosphate bond in GTP. This intrinsic GTPase activity is stimulated by the binding of ZC3H15/DFRP1, potentially by increasing the affinity for potassium ions. When hydroxylated at Lys-22 by JMJD7, DRG1 can bind to RNA and participate in translation. Additionally, DRG1 binds to microtubules and promotes their polymerization and stability, which are essential for mitotic spindle assembly during the transition from prophase to anaphase. However, its GTPase activity is not required for these microtubule-related functions.

DRG1 is also known as NEDD3, TANALS.
