DRAP1
Description
The DRAP1 (DR1 associated protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
DRAP1, encoded by the DRAP1 gene, is a protein involved in transcriptional repression. It functions as a corepressor, interacting with DR1 to enhance its repressive activity. This interaction is crucial for DRAP1's function and stabilizes the TBP-DR1-DNA complex. DRAP1 interacts with TBP, preventing the formation of an active transcription complex by blocking the entry of TFIIA and/or TFIIB. This inhibition of transcription initiation contributes to the regulation of gene expression. DRAP1 has also been shown to interact with FOXH1 and DR1.
The DRAP1 protein, when forming a heterodimer with DR1, binds to TBP. This binding results in the repression of both basal and activated transcription of class II genes. This repression is achieved by inhibiting the association of TFIIA and/or TFIIB with TBP, thereby preventing the formation of a transcription-competent complex. DRAP1 can also bind to DNA independently.
