DPP3

Description

The DPP3 (dipeptidyl peptidase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

DPP3 is a human gene that encodes a cytoplasmic protein with dipeptidyl aminopeptidase activity. This enzyme cleaves Xaa-Pro dipeptides from the N-termini of proteins and has been linked to endometrial and ovarian cancers. Increased DPP3 activity is associated with myocardial depression. Studies in mice have shown that Procizumab, an antibody targeting DPP3, improves cardiac and renal function in heart failure. In humans, higher levels of circulating DPP3 protein in cardiogenic shock patients correlate with a more severe disease course and increased risk of death.

DPP3 cleaves and degrades bioactive peptides such as angiotensin, Leu-enkephalin and Met-enkephalin. It also cleaves Arg-Arg-beta-naphthylamide in vitro.

DPP3 is also known as DPPIII.
