DNAJC2

Description

The DNAJC2 (DnaJ heat shock protein family (Hsp40) member C2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

DNAJC2 plays a dual role, acting as both a chaperone in the cytosol and a chromatin regulator in the nucleus. In the cytosol, it functions as a molecular chaperone within the ribosome-associated complex (RAC), which is involved in folding and maintaining nascent polypeptides. It specifically stimulates the ATPase activity of HSPA14, an Hsp70-type chaperone that binds to the nascent polypeptide chain, facilitating proper protein folding. In the nucleus, DNAJC2 acts as a mediator of gene activation. It specifically binds to histone H2A ubiquitinated at lysine 119 (H2AK119ub), promoting the displacement of the polycomb PRC1 complex from chromatin, thereby facilitating transcription activation.

DNAJC2 is also known as MPHOSPH11, MPP11, ZRF1, ZUO1.
