DNAJA1

Description

The DNAJA1 (DnaJ heat shock protein family (Hsp40) member A1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

DNAJA1, a gene in humans, encodes the DnaJ homolog subfamily A member 1 protein. This protein interacts with PTTG1.

DNAJA1 acts as a co-chaperone for HSPA8/Hsc70, stimulating ATP hydrolysis but not directly facilitating the folding of unfolded proteins mediated by HSPA1A. It plays a role in protein transport into mitochondria and functions as a co-chaperone for HSPA1B, negatively regulating the translocation of BAX from the cytosol to mitochondria in response to cellular stress, thus protecting cells against apoptosis. However, DNAJA1 can also promote apoptosis in response to cellular stress induced by anisomycin or UV exposure.

DNAJA1 is also known as DJ-2, DjA1, HDJ2, HSDJ, HSJ-2, HSJ2, HSPF4, NEDD7, hDJ-2.
