DKK4

Description

The DKK4 (dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

DKK4, a member of the Dickkopf family, is encoded by the DKK4 gene in humans. In cats, DKK4 plays a crucial role in determining coat patterns. DKK4, along with WIF1, secretes Wnt signaling inhibitors, creating a molecular pre-pattern for the development of thick epidermal regions. DKK4 expression patterns vary depending on the specific coat pattern gene (Taqpep) and can contribute to the 'ticked' fur pattern observed in Abyssinian cats. The DKK4 gene is located on chromosome B1 of the cat genome.

DKK4 is also known as DKK-4.
