DGCR11

Description

The DGCR11 (DiGeorge syndrome critical region gene 11) is a ncRNA gene located on chromosome 22.

DGCR11 is a protein that is involved in the biogenesis of microRNAs (miRNAs). It is a component of the microprocessor complex, which is responsible for processing primary miRNA transcripts (pri-miRNAs) into precursor miRNAs (pre-miRNAs). DGCR11 specifically recognizes and binds to the stem-loop structure of pri-miRNAs, facilitating their cleavage by the RNase III enzyme Drosha. The resulting pre-miRNAs are then exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where they undergo further processing to generate mature miRNAs.

DGCR11 plays a crucial role in the biogenesis of microRNAs (miRNAs), small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression. It acts as a key component of the microprocessor complex, a multi-protein assembly that processes primary miRNA transcripts (pri-miRNAs) into precursor miRNAs (pre-miRNAs). DGCR11's involvement in miRNA biogenesis highlights its essential contribution to the intricate network of gene regulation mediated by miRNAs.

DGCR11 is also known as DGS-D.
