DESI2

Description

The DESI2 (desumoylating isopeptidase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

DESI2 possesses the ability to remove ubiquitin chains from proteins. Specifically, it can target both 'Lys-48' and 'Lys-63' linked polyubiquitin chains. Notably, it plays a role in stabilizing the protein RPS7 by removing 'Lys-48' linked polyubiquitin chains. Furthermore, DESI2 exhibits palmitoyl protein thioesterase activity, meaning it can remove palmitate groups from proteins. This activity has been observed with synthetic substrates like 4-methylumbelliferyl-6-S-palmitoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside and S-depalmitoylation probe 5 (DPP-5).

DESI2 is also known as C1orf121, CGI-146, DESI, DESI1, DeSI-2, FAM152A, PNAS-4, PPPDE1.
