DESI1

Description

The DESI1 (desumoylating isopeptidase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

DESI1 is a protease that removes SUMO1, SUMO2, and SUMO3 from proteins. It also has isopeptidase activity but does not process SUMO proteins directly. DESI1 removes SUMO from the protein ZBTB46. It works with UBQLN4 to move ubiquitinated proteins from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. DESI1 can also remove palmitate from proteins, as shown by its activity against synthetic substrates.

DESI1 is also known as D15Wsu75e, DESI2, DJ347H13.4, DeSI-1, FAM152B, POST, PPPDE2.
