DEFB105A
Description
The DEFB105A (defensin beta 105A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.
Beta-defensin 105 is a protein encoded by the DEFB105A gene in humans. Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides produced by neutrophils. These peptides are classified into three groups based on structure: Alpha defensins, Beta defensins, and Theta defensins. All beta-defensin genes are tightly clustered in four to five syntenic chromosomal regions. Chromosome 8p23 contains at least two copies of the duplicated beta-defensin cluster. This duplication results in two identical copies of defensin, beta 105, DEFB105A and DEFB105B, in a tail-to-tail orientation. The DEFB105A gene represents the more centromeric copy.
DEFB105A is also known as BD-5, DEFB-5, DEFB105.
