Description

The LRRC32 (leucine rich repeat containing 32) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

LRRC32 is a key regulator of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-Ξ²) activation. It maintains TGF-Ξ² in a latent state during storage in the extracellular space by associating with the Latency-associated peptide (LAP) via disulfide bonds. LRRC32 also regulates integrin-dependent activation of TGF-Ξ² and can outcompete LTBP1 for binding to LAP. It controls activation of TGF-Ξ²1 on the surface of activated regulatory T-cells (Tregs) and is required for epithelial fusion during palate development by regulating activation of TGF-Ξ²3. LRRC32 interacts with TGF-Ξ²1, TGF-Ξ²2, and TGF-Ξ²3, as well as LAPTM4B. Interactions with LAPTM4B decrease TGF-Ξ²1 production in regulatory T-cells.
