PCSK6

Description

The PCSK6 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 6 is a protease encoded by the PCSK6 gene located on chromosome 15 in humans. It is a calcium-dependent serine endoprotease that converts precursor proteins from their 'latent' to their 'active' form by cleaving them at specific sites. Active PCSK6 processes various substrates, including transforming growth factor Ξ², pro-albumin, von Willebrand factor, and corin. It has been implicated in several important biological processes, including left/right asymmetry, brain structure, handedness, tumor progression, hemostasis, and cardiovascular diseases. During development, PCSK6 regulates embryogenesis by activating TGFΞ²-related differentiation factors such as BMP and Nodal.

PCSK6 is also known as PACE4, SPC4.
