DEDD

Description

The DEDD (death effector domain containing) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The DEDD gene encodes a protein containing a death effector domain (DED), a protein-protein interaction domain involved in the programmed cell death pathway. DEDD overexpression has been shown to induce weak apoptosis. The protein translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus upon stimulation and colocalizes with UBTF, a crucial factor for RNA polymerase I transcription, in the nucleolus. At least three transcript variants have been identified for this gene, all encoding the same protein.

DEDD is also known as CASP8IP1, DEDD1, DEDPro1, DEFT, FLDED-1, FLDED1, KE05.
