DDX3Y

Description

The DDX3Y (DEAD-box helicase 3 Y-linked) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome Y.

DDX3Y is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase encoded by the DDX3Y gene in humans. DEAD box proteins, characterized by the DEAD motif, are involved in various cellular processes that modify RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome/spliceosome assembly. DDX3Y has a homolog on the X chromosome (DDX3X). Mutations in DDX3Y can cause male infertility, Sertoli cell-only syndrome, or severe hypospermatogenesis, indicating its crucial role in spermatogenesis.

DDX3Y is also known as DBY.
