DCD
Description
The DCD (dermcidin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
DCD may refer to:
DCD-1 is found in sweat and exhibits antimicrobial activity during early bacterial colonization. It assembles into homohexameric complexes that associate with and insert into pathogen membranes, forming anion channels that disrupt transmembrane potential, crucial for bacterial survival. DCD-1 effectively targets E.coli, E.faecalis, S.aureus, and C.albicans. Its optimal pH and salt concentration mirror those found in sweat. Additionally, DCD-1 demonstrates proteolytic activity, cleaving on the C-terminal side of Arg and, to a lesser extent, Lys residues.
DCD is also known as AIDD, DCD-1, DSEP, HCAP, PIF.
