CYP2A7

Description

The CYP2A7 (cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily A member 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

CYP2A7 (cytochrome P450, family 2, subfamily A, polypeptide 7) is a human protein encoded by the CYP2A7 gene. This gene belongs to the cytochrome P450 superfamily, known for their role in drug metabolism and synthesis of essential molecules like cholesterol, steroids, and lipids. The enzyme is localized within the endoplasmic reticulum, but its specific substrate remains unidentified. The CYP2A7 gene produces two transcript variants and is part of a large cluster of cytochrome P450 genes from the CYP2A, CYP2B, and CYP2F subfamilies located on chromosome 19q.

Cytochrome P450 2A7 (CYP2A7) is part of a large family of enzymes involved in various metabolic processes. Within liver microsomes, CYP2A7 utilizes an NADPH-dependent electron transport system to oxidize diverse compounds including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics.

CYP2A7 is also known as CPA7, CPAD, CYP2A, CYPIIA7, P450-IIA4.
