CXCL17
Description
The CXCL17 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
CXCL17, a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family, is found in humans and mice. It attracts dendritic cells and monocytes, and its expression is regulated in tumors. Also known as VCC-1 and DMC, CXCL17 is constitutively expressed in the lungs. The human CXCL17 gene is located on chromosome 19. CXCL17 is an orphan chemokine with no known receptor, although a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) is likely involved. GPR35 was initially considered a receptor for CXCL17, but subsequent research has shown this to be incorrect.
CXCL17 acts as a chemoattractant for monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells. It plays a role in angiogenesis and may contribute to tumor development. It has anti-inflammatory effects in the stomach and may be involved in the innate defense against infections. CXCL17 activates the C-X-C chemokine receptor GPR35 to induce a rapid and transient rise in intracellular calcium ions.
