CXCL13

Description

The CXCL13 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

CXCL13, also known as B lymphocyte chemoattractant (BLC) or B cell-attracting chemokine 1 (BCA-1), is a protein ligand encoded by the CXCL13 gene. It is a small chemokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family and selectively attracts B cells (both B-1 and B-2 subsets). CXCL13 interacts with chemokine receptor CXCR5 to control the organization of B cells within follicles of lymphoid tissues. It is highly expressed in the liver, spleen, lymph nodes, and gut of humans. The CXCL13 gene is located on human chromosome 4 in a cluster of other CXC chemokines. In T lymphocytes, CXCL13 expression suggests a germinal center origin, particularly for follicular B helper T cells (TFH cells). Therefore, CXCL13 expression in T-cell lymphomas, such as angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, indicates a germinal center origin of the neoplastic T-cells.

CXCL13 is also known as ANGIE, ANGIE2, BCA-1, BCA1, BLC, BLR1L, SCYB13.
