CTSO

Description

The CTSO (cathepsin O) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

Cathepsin O is an enzyme produced by the CTSO gene in humans. It belongs to the cathepsin family of cysteine proteases, which are enzymes that break down proteins. Cathepsin O is involved in the process of cellular protein degradation and turnover, essentially helping to break down and recycle proteins within cells. Its activity was confirmed by experiments showing that it can degrade synthetic peptides, which are often used as substrates to test the activity of cysteine proteinases. This activity could be blocked by inhibitors specifically designed to target cysteine proteinases, further confirming that Cathepsin O is a member of this enzyme family.

CTSO is also known as CTSO1.
